Mandrake in particular.. and it was fun to install and run on another computer for like 2 months... I was using the KDE 3.0 desktop, with alot of the K desktop applications installed. So, then to do development I installed:
mySQL
PHP
Postgres DB
Tomcat JSP
so..then i was like, yea this is cool.. but then i realized I could install all of that stuff on Windows 2000 Advanced Server,
so then i installed all of that (minus Postgres which is crap anyways) and I am able to do development on an environment which is easier to install/uninstall on, manage files, connect to a Windows network, and in my opinion, runs MUCH faster than the same system running Mandrake Linux. Plus I get IIS, ASP, MSSQL 2000, etc....
the only thing I am having a hard time finding or getting to work, is a TIME server on Windows 2000... I want one that can update the time from the internet, and also run as a server for my other Workstations on my LAN to update from.... I am using SNTPServer.. but it is $50 and i only have 30 days left on the install.. and I can't get W23TIME on Windows to work without loosing some hair.
so.. as of this week, I will be > format c: /s to my linux box and installing a fresh Windows OS to that machine.... I feel like I gave it a chance to captivate and draw me in, but I wasn't impressed.. sorry Linux fans.
